IJM Pro Partner Kirk Cousins Helps Victims of Violence Make a Comeback

This week, our hometown QB, Kirk Cousins, launched a “You Like That!” t-shirt sale. Kirk’s inspiring performance on the field on Sunday was the greatest Redskins comeback of all time. But perhaps even greater than his on-field performance is Kirk and Julie Cousins' desire to use that moment to offer a comeback of another sort for our clients at IJM. Our clients -men, women and children- desperately need hope as today millions are entrapped in slavery around the world. Kirk and Julie are showing up for them with not only the t-shirt sale but through the myriad of ways they've worked with us as an IJM Pro Athlete family for the last few years…THAT is a big reason to cheer!

At IJM, we love that Kirk was introduced to IJM as a teenager at his church. It was there that he heard IJM founder, Gary Haugen, speak about the tens of millions in slavery. He tells us that in that moment he hoped to someday have the means to give to IJM to fight injustice. Fast forward to 2012 when a former Redskins teammate, Tyler Polumbus, invited him to IJM’s D.C. Benefit Dinner where Kirk rediscovered IJM was headquartered right here in D.C.

Launched in 2014, IJM’s Pro Athletes for Justice Team currently has dozens of pros in the NFL & MLB using their platforms to raise funds and awareness for victims of slavery. Since the Pro Team launched, IJM athlete families have given almost $1.5 million for the work of rescue and participate in IJM events and happenings around the U.S, in the media and on trips to the field around the globe.
International Justice Mission is a global organization that protects the poor from violence throughout the developing world. IJM partners with local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems.
